Trovu connects directly to your Plex Media Server. Direct play for MKV, HEVC, AV1, and DTS, pin code sign-in at plex.tv/link, Live TV with a program guide, and 4K HDR10 — free up to 1080p.
Trovu direct plays the formats most Plex libraries actually contain, so your server is not re-encoding video in real time. The Apple TV silicon does the decoding — a NAS or mini PC can serve 4K remuxes effortlessly.
Download Trovu from the App Store on your Apple TV. Works on Apple TV HD and every Apple TV 4K with tvOS 17 or later.
Sign in with your Plex account, pick a server Trovu found on your local network, or enter a server address manually.
Enter the short code Trovu shows at plex.tv/link from any browser, then pick from your owned and shared servers.
Your library appears immediately and syncs in the background. Movies, shows, Live TV, and search are all there.
Link with a short code, then pick any server on your account — owned or shared with you. Local, remote, and relay connections are tried automatically.
Plex intro and credits markers show up as skip buttons, and chapters work with artwork previews.
Channel lineup and program guide from your Plex DVR, tuned with the same player as the rest of your library.

Yes. Trovu is an independent third-party Plex client for Apple TV. It connects directly to your Plex Media Server, direct plays the formats in your library, and adds instant cross-server search, a TV-style Live TV guide, and Trakt scrobbling.
Choose Plex when adding a server, then enter the short code Trovu shows at plex.tv/link from any browser. Trovu lists the servers on your Plex account, including servers shared with you. You can also let Trovu discover servers on your local network, or type a server address manually. See the setup guide for details.
No. Trovu itself does not require a Plex Pass. Trovu connects to your Plex Media Server with your regular Plex account. Server-side features that Plex gates behind a subscription, such as DVR recording, follow whatever your Plex account already has. Yes. Trovu direct plays MKV, MP4, and WebM containers with H.264, HEVC, AV1, and VP9 video and AAC, AC3, EAC3, DTS, DTS-HD, and TrueHD audio. Your Plex server hands over the original file instead of transcoding it.
Yes. If your Plex Media Server has a DVR with a tuner and guide configured, Trovu shows your channel lineup and program guide and tunes channels with the same player used for the rest of your library. A recent Plex Media Server version is required for the guide.
Yes. Trovu connects to Plex and Jellyfin servers at the same time and merges them into one home screen. Search, continue watching, and recently added all aggregate across every connected server, or you can filter to a single server. See Jellyfin on Apple TV for the Jellyfin side.
